Kawartha Lakes Airport Hangar Expansion Complete

Construction on the $626,000 airport hangar expansion at the Kawartha Lakes Municipal Airport has wrapped up creating 10 additional hangar spaces for aviators.

The 10 new T-hangars addressed an urgent need for hangar space at the Lindsay-based airport and will provide opportunities for aviation enthusiasts who currently house their aircraft at other airports.

"The Lindsay Municipal Airport is a tremendous asset to the community," said airport manager Bob English. "We have been receiving a number of telephone and email inquiries about the airport and available space and the addition of these hangars will be a huge boost locally."

With a primary asphalt runway of 1,067 metres (3,500 feet) and a second grass runway of 805 metres (2,641 feet), the airport is operated on a 24/7 time schedule. Runway lighting is automatic on the ARCAL system. The fuel system is a state of the art self-service card-lock dispensing unit that provides both LL 100 and JET A-1 fuel.

The Kawartha Lakes Municipal Airport has an aircraft maintenance facility, "Eric B. Robinson Ltd.," an initial and advanced flight training school "Fly Canadian," as well as a full service restaurant, "Airportview Restaurant," and is home to many privately owned general aviation aircraft.

Among the recent upgrades to the airport is the expansion of the apron parking areas and the lengthening of the taxiways. These improvements are setting the stage for new hangars and taxiways to increase the level of service to the general aviation market. The aircraft parking areas have been increased from 23 to 45 permanent tie-down spots. The visitor parking areas can now accommodate 10-15 aircraft flying in to take advantage of the fuel system and restaurant.
